4 Overrated Houseplants

dereklobaugh

1) Variegated Monsteras

Over the past few years, variegated Monsteras have been very popular. The prices are extremely high and ridiculous. There are many plants that are cheaper like the Philodendron White Knight. Do not get me wrong I would love to have this plant but for one plant the high price is ridiculous. Sellers like Costa Farms have promised these to come out for a couple of years but they are not. It was most likely something that went wrong with propagation or something else.

2) Philodendron Pink Princess

This plant once went through tissue culture but stopped because its popularity was not huge. After they stopped the plant started gaining popularity. Pink plants are really popular, especially over the past few years. It is so bad that they used a chemical to turn a Philodendron Congo pink and called is the Pink Congo. Ring a bell? Plant sellers try to get plants out the door at the largest price and the lowest quality they can (in my opinion). In fact, most Philodendron Pink Princesses that are sold have low amounts of variegation and are extremely expensive.

3) Ficus Lyrata (Fiddle Leaf Fig)

I honestly do not even understand why this plant is so popular. It is so hard to take care of and does not even look the greatest. It is a nice plant but their are similar plants that are easier to take care of. I think that half the people who buy these popular plants just do to be like everyone else.

4) Chain of Hearts

The Chain of Hearts can be pretty but is not easy to take care of. This plant attracts bugs and needs a lot of light.
